NYT Crossplay Word Finder

Type the tiles on your rack, plus any letters already on the board that you want to play through. Use ? or * for each blank. Press Fix Jumble and the results come back grouped by length, with each word's Crossplay face points beside it and the highest scorers first.

To fit a word onto the board, open Options. Prefix and Suffix lock letters that are already in place at the start or end, Must Include keeps a letter you plan to cross, and Word Length matches the gap you have. Face points are the tile values only, so add premium squares and the sweep bonus yourself.

NYT Games launched Crossplay in January 2026 as its first two-player game. You play against a friend or against the computer, and each player holds seven tiles that the other cannot see.

The first word has to cover the center square, and every later word has to connect to tiles already on the board. Premium squares are marked 2L and 3L (double and triple letter) and 2W and 3W (double and triple word). Playing all seven tiles in one turn earns a 40-point sweep bonus.

When the tile bag runs out, each player gets one final turn and then the game ends. Tiles left on your rack are not subtracted from your score. Valid words come from a curated version of the NASPA Word List 2023, with trademarks and slurs removed.

1 point: A, E, I, N, O, R, S, T. 2 points: D, L, U. 3 points: C, H, M, P. 4 points: B, F, G, Y. 5 points: W. 6 points: K, V. 8 points: X. 10 points: J, Q, Z. The three blanks are worth 0.

The 100-tile bag is close to Scrabble's: it has one more H, one more S and one more blank, and one fewer I, N and U. The values are where the real changes are. G, J and V are each worth 2 more than in Scrabble; B, K, L, U and W are worth 1 more; and H is worth 1 less.

The same word can score very differently. JUG is 11 face points in Scrabble and 16 in Crossplay. GLOVE goes from 9 to 14, and JUKEBOX from 27 to 32. Words built on H go the other way: HASH drops from 10 to 8.

Across the JumbleFix word list, the average seven-letter word is worth about 13.2 face points in Crossplay, against 11.8 in Scrabble. Words with G, J, V or W score more than Scrabble habits suggest, and words with H score a little less.

JUKEBOX is also one of the richest sweeps you can play without a blank: 32 face points plus the 40-point bonus. Only MUZJIKS, at 33, scores more.

The best two-letter words by Crossplay value are JO (11), XU (10), AX, EX, OX and XI (9 each), BY (8) and KA (7). XU gains a point because U is worth 2 here.

Among three-letter words, ZAX (19) and ZEK (17) lead, followed by JAW, JUG and WIZ at 16. Our guide to the rare letters, How to Play the Rare Letters, covers the short words for J, X, Z, Q and K in more detail.

A sweep is worth 40 in Crossplay, 10 less than a Scrabble bingo, so short plays on premium squares matter more. A J on a 3L that makes JO in both directions scores 62, more than the sweep bonus on its own.

Use this word finder to practice against the computer, to study your racks, or to look back at a finished game and find the plays you missed. If you play friends, agree up front whether word finders are fair game during a match.
